Cornwall on the telly!

Cornwall’s famous coastline has been spotted in many British TV dramas and films, and we are fortunate to be well located for you to be able to visit a large majority of north Cornwall attractions (as well as attractions further afield!).

The 1996 historical drama ‘Poldark’ was filmed in a number of locations around Cornwall, as was the later TV series, which was set mostly around the Helston area. The popular BBC drama ‘Jonathan Creek’, starring Alan Davies and Caroline Quentin, was filmed at Rinsey Head, which is located off the main A394 road between Helston and Penzance.

‘Hornblower’, the series based on C. S. Forester’s ten fictional Napoleonic war era novels about a Royal Navy Officer, Horatio Hornblower, featured extensive scenes at Falmouth and St Mawes, both about one and a half hours southwest of The Hideaway at Trevale.  Love the series? Why not pay a visit to Pendennis Castle, an imposing fortress built by Henry VIII, which was also used as a location for the series.

As far as TV dramas go, one of the most well-known series that was filmed in Cornwall is the much loved ‘Doc Martin’. Starring Martin Clunes, the show is set in the fictional seaside village of Portwenn, and filmed on location in Port Issac, with most interior scenes shot in a converted local barn at Roscarrock Manor Farm.

Also partly filmed in Port Issac was the welsh detective drama series Hinterland, which came to Cornwall in 2015, and also visited Polzeath, a small seaside resort on the headland opposite Padstow.

Most recently, our very own Tamar Valley featured in the Sky 1 show ‘Delicious’, featuring Dawn French, which was filmed on location at Pentillie Castle in the Tamar Valley!

Love your Cornish television dramas? Come to The Hideaway and enjoy the beautiful scenery that you have enjoyed ‘on the box’ in real life! We can’t wait to welcome you as you explore the North Cornwall Attractions – as well as those further afield!
